5,571 plumbing contractors have no website — and most are thriving anyway

Of the 21,457 plumbing contractors in the corpus, 5,571 (26%) have no website on their public listing. Not an outdated site — none. Every prospect who finds them lands on a bare profile, reads a handful of reviews, and guesses.

These are not failing businesses. The average public rating across the 20,691 rated plumbing contractors is 4.68 stars with a median of 35 reviews — sustained, real customer demand. The gap is visibility, not viability, which is exactly the gap a marketing agency closes.

21,027 of them (98%) publish a phone number, so the no-website segment is reachable today by anyone who bothers to call.

Denominator: the 490 sites with archive history — a subset of the full corpus, not all 21,457 businesses.

Reachability: who answers a cell phone?

Of the 605 plumbing phone numbers we’ve run through carrier-grade line-type verification so far, 155 (26%) are mobile lines — the owner’s own pocket, not a front-desk landline. Line-type checks run per-scan, so this subset grows with the corpus; the percentage describes verified numbers only, not all 21,457 businesses.

Methodology

First-party data: 21,457 US plumbing contractors across 695 cities in 48 states, profiled from public business listings and public-web signals. Corpus snapshot: April 2026. Headline percentages use the full analyzed corpus as denominator; line-type and site-staleness figures describe the explicitly stated subsets where those signals have been verified. Figures refresh as the underlying corpus grows — this page always renders the live aggregate, never a frozen copy.

Demographic intelligence

Public-sector demographic data

Population, household income, home value, homeownership rate, median year structure built and self-employment density come from authoritative public demographic releases. Refreshed annually.

Business signals

Live business records

Business names, addresses, ratings, review counts, websites, phone numbers and operating status come from live business records. Each profiled business is re-checked regularly so stale data drifts off the page.

Scoring weights

Composite vulnerability score

We blend 19 signals (review velocity, star rating, website presence and freshness, ad pixels, hiring activity, competitor density and visual brand, plus eleven more) into a 0–100 score. Higher means more likely to engage with marketing services.
